Ryde With Us to Barnegat Oyster Collective with NYC Oyster Club

I learned to shuck oysters and it was dope 🦪

(...and only now I'm seeing there's an oyster emoji lol)

You may have seen "Private Group" on the trip calendar on the site. That's what this was. I get to work with other awesome groups and clubs across the city. Sometimes it's, "Can you take me and my 13 friends to this World Cup game in Philly?". And sometimes it's things like this.

I want to give a huge shout out to the @oysterclubnyc for introducing me to their outdoorsy oyster socials earlier this month.

Although I'd been looking forward to this trip, I honestly had no idea what I was getting myself into until the day-of.

So after I picked up and dropped off the Oyster Club, I spent all morning googling (while they hopped on a boat to inspect the actual oyster farm) and realized that oyster socials are just like group hikes, or sitting around a campfire with an awesome group: it's better together.

Up until this moment I had never tried or understood oysters. But after having learned from the good people of @barnegatoyster how this keystone species keeps our oceans clean, provides us humans with a gazillion nutrients when eaten and can be raised with less ecological impact than cows or pigs, I may just switch from burgers with bacon...

No. Of course not. I'm kidding. I love burgers. But I'm definitely eating less of those and more of these.

Bonus! Oyster lovers love the environment just as much as oysters so if you're into saving the word as much as group hikes, join me and the Oyster Club in 2027 when we team up to bring you more of these experiences 👍️
