It's all about Independent Mountains
Al Berrios
In January 2020, we were still excited!
It would have been our 8th season leading day trips to all the big east coast ski resorts. Think Killi, Huntah, Snow. But the snow didn't show.
So the vibe was, why spend a small fortune to visit big mountains that we knew weren't operating all their lifts. There had to be another option to hit the slopes without signing away our first born.
So we set about to find cheaper mountains. And Wow! We discovered the "independents": 1- to 3-lift mountains dotted across the region that were priced for everyone, not just corporate pass-holders.
And bonus, they were they closer to NYC; you could be home early. (boom!)
There were virtually no crowds, so there were no lines; think 20 runs before lunch. (Boom!)
They were way less expensive than the big mountains whether or not you had a pass and even if you purchased day-of at the window. (BOOM!)
And they all made their own snow, meaning whether or not it's snowing in NYC, there's always snow on the mountains (BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!)
It felt like finding a $100 in your pocket during laundry (then taking it to the mountain, riding all day and buying lunch and you'd still have a few bucks left over for gas); that good....
Until the end of Feb when Covid struck and killed the rest of the season.
That’s how our snow program was born. (And for anyone who remembers, it was called Lifty back then. Now it's called Rydeshares. You can learn more on our blog.)
Anyway, we've been visiting these mountains every season since and hope you can join. us this season.
