One day, Outerthere Host Anna and her bff Carla decided to go on a casual walk that accidentally turned into a 17-mile hike. Apparently, they only took a 5-minute break the entire 17 miles. So, to finish that hike, they’d say, “Onward!” to motivate each other to keep going. Ooookay. It was crazy but that's how the Onward Challenge (and hashtag) was born.
The #Onward Challenge kicked off in 2021 with a 36.5 mile "ultra" hike-a-thon that took fam over 7,350 feet of elevation change over 15 weeks from January to April. Each hike has its own challenges, testing your stamina and endurance in extreme weather conditions. But when you're done, you're never going to forget what you accomplished.
And in 2022, The #Onward Challenge returns! Starting this Saturday, Jan 8th at Bull Hill in Cold Spring, NY and every month after we're doing a 32.5 mile “ultra” hike-a-thon over 7,619 feet of elevation change. Bear Mountain will challenge us in Feb. West Mountain in March. Black Forest in April. And the tallest Catskill of all, Slide Mountain in May!
Each hike has its own challenges, testing your stamina and endurance in extreme weather conditions (snow and ice on the ground). But when you’re done, you’re never going to forget what you accomplished.
And this time, we’re doing it faster and at new mountains!
Oh and when you complete all the #Onward Challenges, you’ll receive a free #Onward Challenge Finisher Sweatshirt
Then, from June thru Oct, we'll be running obstacle races! And throughout the entire time, we'll be receiving support and training tips from our Onward Running support team!
