They worked hard, of course. But they worked hard with friends who worked hard with them.
The were motivated, definitely. But they had friends who motivated them.
Everything they succeeded at, they tried for the first time, too. And they tried it with friends who always said yes.
Welcome to Onward Running, a group of Outerthere Hosts and fam who run 1, 2, and 3 miles every week with the goal of being able to try every trip on the Outerthere calendar with you... because being "in shape" shouldn't be a barrier for you to try awesome outdoor activities!
WHY ONWARD RUNNING?
The Onward Challenge started when, one day, Outerthere Host Anna and her bff Carla decided to go on a casual walk that accidentally turned into a 17-mile hike. Apparently, they only took a 5-minute break the entire 17 miles. So, to finish that hike, they’d say, “Onward!” to motivate each other to keep going. It was crazy but that's how the Onward Challenge (and hashtag) was born.
In the winter of 2021, the #Onward Challenge took hikers on a 36.5 mile "ultra" hike-a-thon over 7,350 feet of elevation change over 15 weeks though snow, ice, spring rain and humidity.
Outerthere's mission is to include everyone outdoors, to access every activity and feel welcome every time. And the Onward Running Team is an extension of that mission. Join us when you can. Totally free to run.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Every week (usually Wednesdays, but when it's convenient for you), we agree to do a run. Sometimes we run solo. Sometimes we meet up at a local NYC park around 6:30p. We stretch. We run.
