Over the years, dozens of group hikes have been added to Outerthere. Unfortunately, many really great hiking ideas were abandoned. Well, we'd like to bring some of them back. That's where you come in.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY: Outerthere is hiring qualified guides as independent contractors to guide group hikes in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

For the purposes of this application, a qualified guide is someone who has taken the Host Accelerator Program and has already attained their Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification.

Please note that New York State requires outdoor guides to be licensed to be a commercial guide in New York State public lands. (This license also requires a WFA certification). If you do not have your NYS Guiding License, you can still apply. If you do not have your WFA, you can still apply, too. Please indicate that in the form below.

If contracted, your guiding services will be covered under our corporate insurance.

You will also have access to Outerthere resources that you may need to perform your guiding duties. These resources may include vehicles and rental equipment.

Please note that this opportunity is only for candidates based in NY, NJ, CT and PA. Please check back here as we expand this service to other states.

WHAT'S EXPECTED FROM YOU: If you have not already done so, you will be required to take the Host Accelerator Program before you're able to guide or host a group hike.

This training is not specific to our company and as a result, it is not paid training. You will be granted a certification badge upon completion.

Once you're contracted to guide or host a group hike on Outerthere, you'll be able to make modifications to your trip, including changing trails, routes and dates.

You will be expected to guide a minimum of 3 confirmed group hikes per year. Hikes will only be confirmed once a minimum number of guests sign up. 

Confirmed trips will be marked on individual trip listings. You can also monitor attendance via the same trip listing.

You will be assigned to host/guide a trip based on seniority, then availability.

After you've hosted/guided 3 confirmed group hikes, Outerthere may cover the cost of attaining your wilderness first aid certification. Please note that covering your certification may require additional guiding commitments.

You will have a trip budget of up to $10/per guest for incidentals.

COMPENSATION: Outerthere contractors who guide group hikes earn $185/trip. This does not include tips, meals or other expenses. Health insurance is not provided.

DISCLOSURE: Experiences on Outerthere are safe spaces. You and your guests will be expected to keep pets on leashes, not smoke and not drink to excess. Aggressive, unwelcome or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated, period.
